Privacy Policy

This website is run by Black Bird Cafe (“Black Bird Café”, “we”, “us”), a café and restaurant with two branches in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India:

This policy covers blackbirdcafe.in only. Our table-ordering app and our listings on delivery platforms are separate services and handle data under their own policies — see Other services.

This site is a set of static files. There is no login, no account, no cart and no database behind it. We do not run analytics, we use no advertising or tracking pixels, and our own code sets no cookies.

For most visits, the only trace you leave with us is an ordinary line in a web-server log. If you use the enquiry form, nothing reaches us until you press send inside WhatsApp.

Information you choose to send us

The enquiry form on our Contact page does not submit to a server. It takes what you type and assembles it into a WhatsApp message, then opens WhatsApp with that message ready. Nothing is sent until you press send there, and if you close the page instead, we never see it. Once you do send, it reaches us as a normal WhatsApp message: your name, your phone number as shown to us by WhatsApp, and whatever you wrote.

The same applies to calling or emailing us — we hold whatever you tell us for as long as it takes to deal with your enquiry.

Information collected automatically

Our web server and the security network in front of it keep standard access logs. A log line typically records your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the page you came from and your browser’s user-agent string. We use these to keep the site online, diagnose faults and defend against attacks and abuse. We do not use them to build a profile of you, and we do not try to identify individual visitors from them.

What we do not collect

• No accounts, passwords or login data — there is nothing to sign in to.
• No payment or card details. This site never takes a payment.
• No analytics, heatmaps, session recording or advertising trackers.
• Nothing stored on your device by us — no cookies, no local storage.

This site sets no cookies of its own, which is why you will not see a cookie banner on it. We have no analytics or advertising cookies to ask you about.

Two things outside our code can still set cookies in your browser while you are here. The security and delivery network in front of our server may set a strictly-necessary cookie to tell real visitors from automated traffic. And if you scroll to the map on a branch page, Google Maps loads and may set its own cookies — see below.

Each branch page embeds a Google map so you can see exactly where we are. The map loads automatically once you scroll near it, rather than when the page first opens.

When it loads, your browser contacts Google directly. Google receives your IP address and information about your device and browser, and may set cookies or read existing ones — for example if you are signed in to a Google account. That exchange is between you and Google and is governed by Google’s privacy policy, not by this one. We receive nothing from it.

The address of every branch is written out as plain text next to each map, so you never have to load it to find us.

Several buttons on this site hand you over to a service we do not run. Once you land there, that service’s own privacy policy applies:

• WhatsApp (Meta) — our enquiry and message links.
• Our table-ordering app — a separate application, used by scanning the QR code at your table. Placing an order there involves the details needed to cook and deliver it to your table.
• Kivo, Zomato and Swiggy — takeaway and delivery orders are placed and paid for entirely on whichever of those platforms you choose. The address, phone number and payment details you give them are held by them, under their own privacy policies. We only receive what we need to cook and hand over the order.
• Instagram — our profile link.

We do not control these services and we are not responsible for how they handle your data.

We use what we hold only to:

• reply to your enquiry, quote for a bulk order or arrange a booking;
• take, prepare and hand over the food you have ordered;
• keep this website available, secure and working correctly;
• meet obligations the law places on us, including tax and food-safety records.

We do not use your details for marketing unless you have asked us to, and we do not run automated decision-making or profiling.

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only with:

• the service providers that make the site and our ordering work — our hosting and security providers, and the platforms listed above;
• professional advisers, and government or law-enforcement bodies, where we are legally required to do so.

Server logs rotate automatically and are kept only as long as they are useful for security and troubleshooting. Messages and enquiries are kept while we are dealing with them, and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you come back to us about the same thing. Records we are required by law to keep — tax and accounting records, for example — are held for the period the law specifies.

Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can ask us to tell you what personal data of yours we hold and what we have done with it, correct anything inaccurate or incomplete, erase data we no longer need a reason to keep, and withdraw a consent you gave us earlier. You can also nominate someone to exercise these rights on your behalf if you die or become incapacitated.

Ask by phone or email using the details in Contact us. We may need to check who you are before we act, so that we do not hand your information to somebody else. If you are not happy with how we have handled a request, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

This website is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18 through it. Children are very welcome in the café with their family — this is about the website. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

If we change how this site handles information — adding analytics, for instance, or a form that genuinely submits somewhere — we will update this page and change the date at the top of it. This policy was last updated on 15 August 2026.
