When you want a meal, not a snack
Searching for a restaurant rather than a café usually means you want to sit down properly and eat something substantial. Here is what that looks like with us.

Enough menu for a table that cannot agree
The hardest part of eating out with other people is rarely the food — it is the negotiation. One person wants pizza, one wants noodles, one is vegetarian, one only ever eats burgers, and somebody has already said "anywhere is fine" in a tone that means the opposite.
There are over a hundred dishes here across nineteen categories, which is enough that everyone gets what they actually want off a single menu. Pizzas and burgers, momos and Korean noodles, grilled sandwiches and wraps, loaded fries and nachos, then shakes, slush, brownies and waffles at the end.
Veg and non-veg run right through it and are marked on every item, so the vegetarian at the table is choosing from a real list rather than the two things that happen to qualify.

Cooked when you order it
Nothing is held under a lamp. It means a short wait at the start and food that arrives as it should, rather than instantly and tired.
Air conditioned, both branches
Which matters in Vellore for most of the year, and matters more once a room fills up in the evening.
Table ordering from your phone

Cash, card and UPI
All three at both branches, and splitting a bill between a table is routine rather than a favour.
Room for the whole group
An upstairs hall for anything from about eight people upwards — call ahead and it will be laid out when you arrive.
Timing, if you have the choice
Both branches run 10 AM to 9 PM, every day. The rush is 6 PM to 9 PM and it is heaviest at weekends — that is when a walk-in group waits and when the kitchen is working hardest.
An afternoon or an early evening is a noticeably better meal for the same money: more of the room, faster food, and no queue at the counter on the way out. If you are bringing more than a few people, it is worth planning around.
Whatever time you come, remember the 9 PM close when you plan. Arriving at half past eight does not leave much of an evening.
Questions we get asked
Is Black Bird a café or a restaurant?
Both, which is why the sign says Cafe & Restaurant. You can come in for a shake and loaded fries in the afternoon, or sit down to pizzas, wraps, noodles and dessert for a full evening meal. The kitchen and the menu are the same either way.
Do you take table reservations?
Not for small tables — those are first come, first served. For eight people or more, call 97892 90974 ahead and we will lay the room out for you, which is the difference between sitting together and being split up.
How many dishes are on the menu?
Over a hundred, across nineteen categories, and the full list with current prices is on our menu page. It is the same menu at the same prices at both branches.
Is there parking?
There is two-wheeler parking directly outside both branches and street parking for cars nearby. It fills up during the evening rush, so allow a few extra minutes if you are driving between six and nine.
