A shake has a shelf life of about ten minutes

This is the one category where we would actively talk you out of takeaway. A thick shake is an emulsion that starts separating the moment it stops moving — blended to order it is dense enough to need a spoon at first, and half an hour later it is a cold sweet drink with a layer on top.

So it gets blended when you ask for it, and the honest advice is to drink it sitting down. It is the single best argument on this site for eating in rather than ordering out.

The dry fruit shake is the one regulars name. It is also the one most likely to defeat somebody who has already eaten a full meal.

Where they fit in an order

Most people order a shake at the end, which is the wrong way round if you have also ordered dessert — a thick shake and a brownie sundae in the same sitting is a lot of the same thing.

The better move is to treat the shake as the dessert, or to order it early and drink it alongside the food. It is also the thing to order if you have come in for half an hour rather than a meal.

You can, and we would gently suggest not to. A thick shake is blended to order and starts separating once it stops moving — half an hour later it is a different drink. This is the one thing on our menu genuinely worth coming in for.

Do you serve cold coffee?

Yes, in the same section as the shakes, with current prices listed above. What we do not do is speciality hot coffee — if you want a flat white, a dedicated coffee house will serve you better.
